Individual Health Insurance
Individual Health Insurance in Colorado, Sorted Down to Your Best Few Options
Lighthouse Group is an independent, family-owned brokerage that compares marketplace plans, health shares, and private health insurance across multiple carriers, so you can choose coverage for yourself or your family without spending a weekend doing deductible math.

Health Coverage That Fits Your Life, Not Just Your Budget
Whether you just left a job, started working for yourself, retired before 65, need coverage in the middle of the year, or opened a renewal notice that made you wince, we'll help you understand where to start with individual health insurance in Colorado. We compare the plans available in your county and explain what each one costs once you add up the premiums, deductibles, and copays.
Colorado individual market premiums are expected to rise an average of 11% for 2027, and many households lost the enhanced federal tax credits that kept costs down. Choosing a plan carefully matters more this year than it has in a while..
Individual and Family Health Insurance Plans in Colorado
Homeowners Insurance
Coverage designed for primary residences, focusing on rebuilding cost, personal property, liability, and long-term protection.
Marketplace Plans
For individuals and families who may qualify for tax credits
Plans through Connect for Health Colorado are the only way to get premium tax credits that lower your monthly cost. Marketplace premiums are the same whether or not you use a broker. We check your eligibility, compare metal levels and Colorado Option plans, and help you name us as your broker.
Health Shares
For households exploring a potentially lower monthly cost
Health shares aren't insurance. Members share medical costs under the program's guidelines, which may cost less per month but doesn't guarantee payment and isn't required to cover pre-existing conditions. We compare health shares side by side with marketplace plans so you can understand the trade-offs before choosing one.
Alternative Coverage
For people who don't qualify for marketplace subsidies or want to compare other options
If you don't qualify for tax credits, you're paying full price, so it's worth looking beyond the marketplace. We compare off-marketplace plans and other private health insurance options in Colorado, and we explain which options may cover pre-existing conditions and essential health benefits and which may not.
Why Colorado Families Work With Lighthouse Group

Independent Advice
We're an independent brokerage, so we compare Colorado health insurance plans across multiple carriers rather than being limited to one company's products.
Health Insurance Explained in Plain English
If you've ever wondered why a plan with a $0 deductible can still cost you more, you're asking the right question. Co-owner Mandy came into the industry from the nonprofit world without an insurance background, so we start at the beginning and never assume you already know the terminology.
Fast, Proactive Communication
Something that should be simple sets us apart: we answer people and call them back. We check in before open enrollment, review your renewal, and help with claims questions and life changes during the year.
Family-Owned Since 2015
Lighthouse Group is a family-owned and operated Colorado brokerage. You work with a small team of advisors who know your family instead of starting over with a new call center rep every time.
No-Pressure Guidance
We want you to understand the options before you choose one. Our process is built around consultation, research, review, and enrollment, so you're never asked to pick a plan before you know what you're comparing.
What Colorado Families Say About Lighthouse Group
Picking a health plan isn't only about the monthly premium.
It's about knowing someone will answer when a claim gets denied, your doctor leaves the network, or you need to understand what your plan covers.
With
five-star Google reviews, Lighthouse Group has built its reputation around responsive communication, straightforward explanations, and helping clients understand their options without pressure.

Earthquake Insurance
Coverage options for seismic risk, helping protect structures, belongings, and temporary living expenses.

Need Coverage Now? You Have Options Any Time of Year
Open enrollment isn't the only way in. Depending on your situation, we can often get you covered any time of year, sometimes within days.
If You've Had a Recent Life Change
Losing job-based coverage, moving, getting married, or having a baby usually opens a Special Enrollment Period, typically 60 days to choose a new plan. That can include:
-
COBRA, which keeps your employer plan, typically for up to 18 months, at the full premium plus up to a 2% administrative fee.
-
A marketplace plan may cost less, because your tax credit is based on your expected income for the year, which often drops after a job change or retirement.
-
A spouse's employer plan, since losing your coverage usually qualifies you to join it.
If You Don't Have a Qualifying Event
You're not stuck waiting until November. Alternative plans, like health shares and other non-marketplace options, can often start any time of year. They usually come with trade-offs, such as limits on pre-existing conditions, so we'll walk through exactly what each plan covers before you enroll.
If you're retiring before 65, we'll help you find coverage that bridges the gap to Medicare and map out your Medicare timeline for later.

What People Ask Before Choosing a Health Plan
How do I get my own health insurance in Colorado?
You can enroll through Connect for Health Colorado, buy directly from a carrier off the marketplace, or work with a broker who compares both. Premium tax credits are only available through Connect for Health Colorado. You can enroll during open enrollment, or any time you have a qualifying life event.
COBRA or a marketplace plan, which is cheaper in Colorado?
It depends on your situation.
A marketplace plan may cost less if your income qualifies you for tax credits. COBRA may make sense if you've already met much of your deductible, need to keep the same provider network, or only need coverage for a short period.
We'll help you compare the total cost of both before you decide.
Can I buy health insurance outside of open enrollment in Colorado?
Often, yes. A qualifying life event, like losing other coverage, moving, getting married, or having a baby, typically gives you 60 days to enroll in a marketplace plan. If you don't have a qualifying event, alternative plans such as health shares can often start any time of year, and we'll explain what they do and don't cover before you decide.
When is open enrollment for 2027 coverage?
Open enrollment for 2027 coverage in Colorado starts November 1, 2026. Connect for Health Colorado is automatically renewing eligible customers before open enrollment, but your renewed plan may not be your best option. It's worth comparing before you let it roll over.
Does using a health insurance broker cost more?
No. Marketplace premiums are set by carriers and filed with the state, so they're the same with or without a broker. Broker compensation is typically paid by the insurance carrier.
Do I have to understand all of my options before contacting you?
No. That's the point of working with us. You can come to the conversation knowing almost nothing about health insurance, and we'll start with your situation and explain the options from there.
Is there an independent health insurance broker near me?
Lighthouse Group is based in Colorado Springs and works with individuals and families throughout Colorado. Most consultations are virtual, so you can work with us from anywhere in the state. In-person meetings at our Colorado Springs office are also available by request.
