Life & Disability Insurance
Life & Disability Insurance in Colorado, Explained Before You Buy
Lighthouse Group is an independent, family-owned life insurance broker in Colorado that compares term, whole, final expense, disability, and long-term care coverage across multiple carriers, so you can cover your family and your income without feeling pressured to choose a policy you don't fully understand.

Coverage for the People and the Paycheck That Depend on You
Whether you just bought a home, welcomed a new baby, started a business, or started thinking about care later in life, we'll help you figure out what coverage you need and how much. As a life insurance broker in Colorado, we compare policies across carriers and explain how each one works before we recommend anything.
If you're self-employed or run a small business, this matters even more. There's no employer group life or disability plan behind you, so if you can't work, the income stops unless you've planned for it.

Buying life insurance isn't only about finding the lowest premium.
It's about knowing someone will explain your policy in plain language, answer when your needs change, and still be there when your family has questions.
With five-star Google reviews, Lighthouse Group has built its reputation around responsive communication, straightforward explanations, and helping clients understand their options without pressure.

Why Colorado Families Work With Lighthouse Group

Independent Advice
We're an independent brokerage, so we compare policies across multiple insurance carriers rather than being limited to one company's products.
Health Insurance Explained in Plain English
If cash value, riders, and elimination periods sound like a foreign language, you're in good company. Co-owner Mandy came into the industry from the nonprofit world without an insurance background, so we start at the beginning and explain what matters before you decide anything.
Fast, Proactive Communication
Something that should be simple sets us apart: we answer people and call them back. We stay involved through underwriting, approval, policy reviews, and life changes, so you're never left guessing what your coverage does.
Family-Owned Since 2015
Lighthouse Group is a family-owned and operated Colorado brokerage. You work with a small team of advisors who know your family instead of a rotating cast of call center reps.
No-Pressure Guidance
Life insurance has a reputation for hard sells and cold calls. Our process is built around consultation, research, review, and enrollment, so you understand every option before anyone asks you to sign.

Earthquake Insurance
Coverage options for seismic risk, helping protect structures, belongings, and temporary living expenses.

How Much Life Insurance Do I Need?
It depends on what your family would need to keep going without your income.
There's no universal formula, but most coverage decisions come down to a few numbers:
-
Your remaining mortgage balance or years of rent
-
Your annual income and how many years your family would rely on it
-
Debts your family would inherit, including business loans
-
Future costs like childcare or college tuition
-
Funeral and end-of-life expenses
-
Any coverage you already have, including a policy through an employer
An online calculator will give you a number. We'll give you a number, explain how we got there, and compare the term, whole, and final expense options that fit it.

Four Steps From First Question to Covered
1: Consultation
We start with your life, not a policy. We'll talk through your family, income, debts, health, and what you want your coverage to do.
2: Research
We compare policies across multiple carriers, including coverage amounts, term lengths, and underwriting options that fit your health history.
3: Review
We walk through the options together so you understand the cost, how long coverage lasts, what the policy pays, and what it doesn't, before you decide.
4: Enrollment
Once you've chosen, we help with the application, health questions or medical exam, and underwriting. After that, we're still your first call.
What People Ask Before Buying Life or Disability Insurance
Term or whole life insurance, which is better for me?
If you need coverage for a set period, like until the mortgage is paid off or the kids are grown, term life is usually the more affordable fit. Whole life can make sense when you need coverage that lasts your entire life, such as for estate planning or a dependent who will always rely on you. We compare term vs. whole life in the same consultation so you can see the cost difference for yourself.
Do I need disability insurance if I'm self-employed?
If your household depends on your income, it's worth a serious look. Self-employed people don't have employer-provided disability coverage, and Colorado's FAMLI program covers self-employed workers only if they opt in, generally for up to 12 weeks of paid leave. Long-term disability coverage can pay benefits for years.
Does Medicare pay for long-term care?
No. Medicare and Medicare Supplement plans don't pay for most long-term custodial care, such as help with daily activities at home or an extended assisted living stay. Long-term care insurance and hybrid life and long-term care policies are designed to fill that gap.
Can I get life insurance with health problems?
Often, yes. Simplified-issue and guaranteed-issue policies ask fewer or no health questions, though they usually come with higher rates or smaller coverage amounts, and guaranteed-issue plans often include a waiting period.
We'll help you compare the options that may be available based on your health history before you apply.
Do I have to understand all of my options before contacting you?
No. That's the point of working with us. You can come to the conversation knowing almost nothing about life or disability insurance, and we'll start with your situation and explain the options from there.
Does working with an insurance broker cost more?
Broker compensation is typically paid by the insurance carrier rather than added as a separate fee to your premium. We'll explain how the process works before you make any decisions.
Is there an independent life insurance agent near me?
Lighthouse Group is based in Colorado Springs and works with clients throughout Colorado. Most consultations are virtual, so you can work with us from anywhere in the state. If you're looking for a life insurance agent in Colorado Springs, in-person meetings at our office are available by request.
